The Times and The Guardian lose 90% of their traffic after putting up a “members’ area”.
Ooh how dreadful cry the mainstream. Ooh how brilliant cry I.
Imagine, for a second, we could take a tube site and make 10% of the traffic join a pay site.
Can’t be done, right? There are SO MANY free places to get the same content, why would anyone pay?
I bet that is what the newspapers were told too. You can get news ANYWHERE! For FREE! And really good quality news too! Why would anyone pay!!111oneoneone
But they did.
And if 360,000 people are paying 8 quid a month, that is a lot of cash for doing not much work. You just bosh up the content and take the cash. No ad teams, no ad agencies, no admin staff, no tech team, no inventory team, etc etc etc.
Costs are down, cash is up, bandwidth is down.
Fucking superb.
Who will try it in adult?
